Check out this great resource for art contests for the kiddos! Some of the ones listed have deadlines and other are ongoing. Participating in art contests are a great way to build confidence and help kids practice focusing on a piece with a particular theme or message. We are always happy to work with your child if they are interested in creating a piece for an art contest – just say the word!

We have some awesome things in store for you, including new weekly Open Studio sessions where you and your kids can come in and use any of our supplies, tools and space to create masterpieces galore – and the best part is – we handle the clean up! We will have our traditional summer classes for kids and more for ages Pre-K to adult.
We can’t wait to share our schedule with you so check back Monday and get the scoop on all we have to offer you this summer!
Here at Purple Turtle Art Studio, we love it when our super talented local artists agree to share their craft through classes here at the studio. Just in case you missed it – or maybe you have been on the fence about registering – we have two amazing opportunities kicking off this week!
At Purple Turtle Art Studio, we love to support and showcase other arts organizations around town that provide summer opportunities for kids around town! One of our favorite places is Living Water Pottery. Owner, Cindy Gomez, has a host of fun summer camps lined up for for kids over the coming months – check them out and check back here for more great classes and camps for kids art around the Brazos Valley!
Believe it or not, the remaining days of school are numbered and the sunny, school-free days of summer are nearly here. Here at Purple Turtle, we do things a little differently in the summer. From June through August, we operate through a variety of camps!
These bite sized art classes allow your child to work with a variety of media in some different styles and really stretch their creative wings. This is a great opportunity to give Purple Turtle a try if you’re wondering how your child would enjoy art class on a regular basis. The camps also allow for parents and caregivers to embrace summer adventures without worrying about missing weekly classes that have already been paid for.
Each 5-day summer art camp goes from 9-noon and includes all supplies and a snack! For those artists that want even more, you can check out the afternoon sessions throughout the summer, including Cook n Grow bilingual cooking classes, Advanced Drawing, Multimedia Art workshop and Crazy Craft Camp!
Registration for all of these and more is NOW OPEN on the Purple Turtle website. Reserve your spot today and be sure to check back for the latest on classes and camps for kids and adults!
Everyone enjoys a break now and then! With the kids out of school, it is a perfect opportunity to let them explore their creative side with Purple Turtle’s Spring Break Painting Workshops. From 9 – noon, kids will meet new friends, explore a variety of painting techniques and get those brilliant imaginative ideas out and onto the canvas.
Here is another great reason for kids to spend the break creating – it turns out that art has a host of developmental benefits including language development, decision making and visual learning – all great skills they can sharpen for their return to the classroom. You can read about it for yourself in this article from PBS.
Painting workshops will take place Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (the 14th, 15th and 16th). Choose one, two or three days. All supplies and are included with your registration as well as a snack. Register today to reserve your space!
I will be collecting art for the Winter Art Show at the Village Café the last week of classes, Dec. 14-18. My goal is to fill the café with paintings of snowmen and winter scenes along with other amazing pieces created this year. I am able to take 2 pieces per student. All paper pieces need to be framed with a hanging device on the back. Stretched canvas is fine as is, I will wire it. Please label the back with the artists’ name, age and title of work. The art will hang through January and be returned in February.
