Intro to 2D Character Design
June 18-22 / 1pm-4pm
Grades 8th through 12th
Instructor: Tamara Garza
Did you grow up inspired by imaginative PiXAR characters of Monsters Inc. or enjoy the dancing skeletons of Coco? In this class, students will explore the principles of 2D character design and see how to use Adobe creative tools to create original character animations!
Getting your character to move doesn’t take a lot of work. Control gestures like waving with your laptop keyboard. Movements can be saved as buttons, sliders, or knobs so they’re easier to remember than key commands. And you can smooth transitions between facial poses for a hand-animated look.
Using Adobe’s Character Animator software, we will “teach” our character how to mimic our own facial expressions using facial tracking! — from raised eyebrows to moving lips — in real time! We will record our motion and voice using your webcam and a microphone. So when you look surprised, happy, or angry, your character does, too.
At the end of the week, you’ll be ready to send your character out into the world! Whether on your phone, Facebook or IG, you’ll want to share your digital masterpiece. We can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with!
Students will need to bring an internet capable laptop/tablet ready to download Adobe software!
