Open Studio

LeAnn Hale/Staff
This process is referred to as TAB, Teaching for Artistic Behavior. Open Studio is an art education approach that puts students at the center of learning where they will learn how to incorporate the elements of art through projects of their choosing. This class uses a large variety of traditional media. They are encouraged to treat the studio as their own and move beyond comfortable limits with the guidance and expertise of a professional artist/art educator.

Procreate/Open Studio

Russell Marcontell/Staff

Open Studio is an art education approach that puts students at the center of learning where they will learn how to incorporate the elements of art through projects of their choosing. Open studio uses a variety of traditional media as well as digital. They are encouraged to treat the studio as their own and move beyond comfortable limits with the guidance and expertise of a professional artist/art educator. Printmaking/Procreate

Dakota Rogers/Staff
This class will introduce individuals who are interested in learning fine art techniques of printmaking to processes such as intaglio, relief, and monotype printmaking. The course will go through the entire creative process, from how to create interesting ideas, to sketching those ideas, and finally bringing those ideas to life in printmaking processes. Throughout the course, participants will learn how to develop drawing skills, and gain an understanding of design principles, and proper studio etiquette. The Apple drawing app Procreate can be utilized to create design and color separation. By the end of the course, individuals will have a full understanding of how to create beautiful fine art prints from their sketches and drawings.

Elements of Elementary Art

LeAnn Hale/Staff
The beginning is a great place to start. Students will work through the 7 elements of art, establish a base of visual art vocabulary, become proficient with a variety of media and confident in creating art that represents them as an artist. All of the students will work on the same prompted projects with plenty of room to express themselves. The information and artistic processes will be collected into an original art journal for the children to take with them at the end of the class and continue to expand upon.

Display

An important part of art education is display. Taking a project through the creative process, culminating in a public viewing. The Purple Turtle has a spring show yearly and we are always looking for opportunities to get art out into the community.
