Intro to Digital Photography

July 9th – July 13th/ 1:00pm-4:00pm

Grades 8th through adult

Instructor: Tamara Garza

Everyone’s a photographer these days, right? Wrong! There’s a lot more to taking great photos than knowing how to slap a filter on a selfie!

Explore the visual language of images and nurture your passion for photography through an atmosphere of exploration, practice and play in this dynamic workshop. The week will begin with a balance of technical and practical knowledge about the camera as well as a solid historical foundation of how great photographs engage us visually, emotionally and intellectually.

We’ll spend time each day shooting and learning more about your digital camera’s (non-auto) functions as we discuss techniques that allow you to take better and more unique photos. We will the big conquer the concepts in the “Exposure Triangle:” aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Later in the week, we will edit in Adobe Photoshop, retouch photos, and discover ways to combine, blend and mix photographs together.

Students will need to bring a digital camera with manual exposure capabilities and a tripod, and a laptop with Adobe Photoshop to edit, process and combine images. In this workshop we photograph outside in the natural environment, in downtown Bryan, as well as in the studio with controlled lighting.

We learn digital camera functions, shooting skills and image management and processing. Students will also increase their knowledge of contemporary photography with fun in-class demonstrations, hands-on computer instruction, and daily indoor and outdoor shooting projects.
